Training Resources

PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING:

Worker training and education is a priority. Before starting work on a hazardous materials project, our member contractor employees attend pre-employment hazardous materials training sessions developed and sponsored by the Hazardous Materials Association. Pre-employment education and training consists of the following important concepts:

  • Health hazards of exposure to asbestos, and other hazardous materials
  • Use, maintenance, and limitations of respirators
  • Use and maintenance of protective clothing
  • Work area designation and preparation
  • Work area enclosures, negative air pressure containment, and airlocks
  • Dust suppression techniques
  • Use of HEPA filtered vacuum equipment
  • Personal decontamination procedures
  • WHMIS training

Following the initial pre-job training, new employees are paired with experienced hazardous materials workers, and receive additional site-specific training and ongoing instruction from their employers.
